Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings for Commercial and Agricultural Applications
Koehn Building Systems specializes in Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings (PEMB) and is widely known in Kansas and Missouri for our expertise in PEMB. Our team has been working with pre-engineered metal buildings since 2008, and we are an active member of the Metal Building Contractors & Erectors Association (MBCEA). Additionally, our owners have over 20+ years of experience in the construction industry, completing projects across Missouri and Kansas.
We work with either the end-user (i.e. building owner/facility manager), or with qualified architects, to design and erect pre-engineered metal buildings. To give you a few examples of our work, we’ve completed pre-engineered metal buildings for Evans Pipe and Steel, Cook Auction Company, and Montrose Community Building.
Accredited Metal Building Assembler
Koehn Building Systems is accredited by the International Accreditation Service (IAS) for AC478 to recognize metal building assemblers committed to excellence. Koehn Building Systems was the second metal building assembler in the entire state of Missouri to obtain the prestigious AC478 rating.
Benefits of Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings
The benefits of pre-engineered metal buildings are nearly limitless. For the sake of illustration, we will bridle our own excitement and love for commercial steel buildings by showcasing just a few of our clients’ favorite aspects of pre-engineered metal buildings:
Prefab metal buildings are engineered and designed specifically for your needs making them the perfect building solution.
Due to the inherent strength of metal buildings and built-in support structure, the metal building’s clear span far exceeds wood framed buildings. For example, a 200-foot clear span is easily doable when it comes to PEMB.
Unlike its wood counterpart, pre-engineered metal buildings can stand for generations since they do not age the same way from traditional elements such as weather, termite damage, etc. Additionally, when desired, pre-engineered metal buildings can be reskinned aesthetically, even 50 years down the road, and it will look like a new structure.
Since pre-engineered metal buildings have a structure that is built from steel, they are less likely to be damaged by critters (i.e. termites, carpenter ants, bark beetles, etc.). Additionally, due to the structural makeup, a PEMB is less susceptible to damage from natural elements including high-wind storms, lightning, excessive snow weight, etc.
There are many different “accepted methods” to construct and install a traditional building which leads to a lack of consistency between builders which can cause issues down the road. On the other hand, there is only one properly defined methodology for erecting pre-engineered metal buildings which leads to a consistent, higher quality building completion.
Since the buildings are pre-engineered, it is typically a much more rapid process to both produce and install the final building, which leads to time saved and a quicker occupancy turnaround.
Insurance companies estimate insurance premiums based on likelihood of a payout and the projected cost of replacing the structure. Thus, the more damage-resistant your building is, the lower risk faced by the insurance company. PEMB buildings are less likely to be damaged by earthquakes, hurricane-force winds, and heavy snows due to a greater strength-to-weight ratio. Naturally, steel also is more resistant to fire, mold/mildew, termites, and other organic elements. All of these factors can lead to lower insurance costs for your commercial steel building.
Types of Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings
We’ve designed and installed pre-engineered metal buildings for a wide range of applications. Note that we do not try to sell all customers on metal buildings as a default. There is certainly a time and place for traditional stick framed buildings, and we provide this option in commercial spec projects. During our initial conversation we will vet and evaluate your construction needs to determine if a pre-engineered metal building can truly and effectively meet your building’s needs both short-term and long-term.
The following are just a few examples of the types of construction projects for which pre-engineered metal buildings can be utilized:
-
Warehouses
-
Machinery Storage
-
Hobby Shops
-
Shop + Living Quarter Combos
-
Churches
-
Gymnasiums
-
Office Complexes
-
Distribution Centers
-
Auto Dealerships
-
Airplane Hangars
-
Industrial Applications
Custom Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings
Some individuals may think of pre-engineered metal buildings as a static, one-size-fits-all approach. However, this could not be further from the truth. Due to pre-engineered metal buildings being initially designed to specifications and having a great strength-to-weight ratio, the customizability of PEMB is virtually unlimited.
For example, whether you are looking for a 40 foot by 60 foot building, or a facility with a 200,000+ square feet with 50 foot wide doors, a PEMB could be easily built to either specification. As a proud MBCEA member, our team specializes in designing and erecting pre-engineered metal buildings, and our goal is to truly focus on what’s the best fit for your specific needs and functionality requirements.
